Dental Veneers and Dental Laminates

The role of a cosmetic dentist is to give you beautiful teeth and brighter your smile like never before. To that end, there is probably no tool as versatile or as widely used as dental veneers. Dental veneers, sometimes referred to as porcelain veneers, are enhancement devices that have truly made their mark in the dental world. While there are many other products available that do all kinds of amazing things for your smile, veneers may be one of the most versatile options. They can enhance one's smile while also improving oral health. Dental veneers repair damaged, chipped, cracked, or broken teeth while providing a natural appearance.

Comparing Dental Veneers to Other Restoration Options

Dental veneers have become a common choice for restoring one's smile because they can treat a variety of oral concerns, and most patients are eligible for treatment. Patients who have received veneers also find the process to be straightforward. Those who have received dental veneers will note that they are capable of enhancing the shape, appearance, and color of one's tooth.

However, it is important to note that any restorative procedure may have drawbacks. No matter the restoration treatment, one can expect to lose a certain amount of natural enamel. This is consistent with receiving a root canal, which requires a cosmetic dentist to remove enamel to prepare the patient for the placement of a crown. The same principle applies to dental implants, which require the complete removal of the tooth to allow for placement of the new implant. Some patients report feeling uncomfortable with having enamel removed or may be advised against it by their dentist. A benefit of dental veneers is that only a small portion of the enamel will need to be removed to apply the veneers.

Advantages of Dental Veneers

With dental veneers, your cosmetic dentist will only need to remove a tiny portion of your enamel. Thus, the paper-thin veneers are able to be applied easily and will provide a natural appearance. We can save the vast majority of your tooth's enamel since dental veneers are designed to enhance and strengthen the existing tooth without replacing it. While this is certainly an impressive advantage of dental veneers, it is not the only one.

Dental veneers tend to have a shorter treatment time and faster recovery. Take, for example, someone who has mild malocclusion, also known as crooked teeth. Some patients may choose orthodontic measures like traditional braces or new routes like aligners. The downside to orthodontic measures is the amount of time it takes: these types of procedures have a minimum of 12 months of treatment. While these treatments do straighten teeth, they do not help with whitening. Nor can these measures help with chipped teeth.

On the other hand, we can use dental veneers to fix mild malocclusion and we can do your fitting on the second visit. Virtually, this eliminates the need for extensive treatment. Of course, veneers also can help with those suffering from discolored and worn down teeth. In our office, we can match the veneers to the shade of your current teeth or provide an even brighter one. This ensures that you get the most out of your in-office experience.
